My wife and I were in Hong Kong recently, enjoying the wonderful sights and cuisine the city had to offer. We also wandered around the older parts of the city, following the hilly curves of Mid-Levels and the Central areas. Unfortunately, she fell on a steep uneven sidewalk and broke her ankle.
With appreciation to the remarkable healthcare professionals in Hong Kong, we cut our vacation early and headed home for further medical care and consultation with an orthopedic specialist.
Hobbling around on crutches was problematic and painful. And the dependency of using a wheelchair not much better. I was referred to an amazing resource in Denver called the Assistance League of Denver. They have a resource called the Hospital Equipment Lending Program (HELP) where one can borrow – at no cost – various assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, knee scooters, canes, etc., as needed until recovery. HELP just takes a bit of contact information for the loaner.
The knee scooter gives my wife much needed mobility and some independence in our house while she recovers.
The HELP program is financially supported by its parent organization and donations. And I am more than happy to donate for such a timely resource! Keep them in mind if you need medical equipment in the future! It sure saves quite a bit of money over purchasing at a medical supply store! Website: https://www.assistanceleague.org/denver/
